Adoption Information

Opening Hours

The Animal Home is open from 11am until 3pm every day except Wednesdays.

Adoption

Taking on the responsibility of adopting an animal is a very difficult decision to make. Below is a summary of what it will cost you to adopt an animal from the RSPCA Danaher Animal Home and what is included in this cost. Please remember that this will not be the only cost incurred, as an adopted animal needs to be fed and well cared for. Can you afford to financially support an animal?

Please note that these prices are subject to change and may be different depending upon the animal you adopt. The price of any animal not listed will be determined by the animal home.
All our animals are homed in good faith and good health. THERE ARE NO REFUNDS.

It takes at least 2 weeks for a dog to settle into a new home

Typical teething problems can include:

  • Diahhroea or
  • lapse in house training both due to stress of a change in environment and
  • separation anxiety due to over attachment to a new owner

All of the above will settle down, so please give the dog a chance before giving up! If you feel that you might not be prepared for this, then please don't take on one of our dogs.

We praise people who are prepared to take the necessary time with newly adopted animals. If you require further help, please contact the staff at the animal home who may be able to help you. If you feel some expert help is required, then please contact our recommended animal behaviourist, Avril Munson by visiting her website.

What's included in the Adoption Cost

  • The dog/cat will be spayed/neutered either before leaving the center, or a voucher will be issued to the new owner, allowing them to complete this without cost.
  • The dog/cat will be micro-chipped.
  • The dog/cat will be vaccinated if old enough (see below for details on vaccinations).
  • The dog/cat will be wormed and de-flead
  • 30 days free insurance will be issued. We strongly recommend that you continue this policy after the free period to ensure financial help is available in the event of any unexpected veterinary bills.

Adoption Procedure

When you have decided that you wish to adopt a dog or cat, you may place a reserve on that animal. Ask the staff about the nature of the animal and explain your situation to them. They know the animals well and are best to decide if the animal will be suited to the owner and their situation. The last thing we want to see is the animal returned to us because of an incorrect matching of owner/animal. If a reserve is placed, then the RSPCA will complete a home check of your house to ensure that it is suitable for the animal. If this home check passes, then you are free to return and adopt the animal

Please note, that if for any reason the animal has to be returned, it must returned to the Danaher Animal Home and must not be taken to any other establishment.

Vaccinations

At the Animal Home, all cats are vaccinated against Cat Flu and Enteritis. All dogs are vaccinated against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza and Leptospirosis.
