Welcome to the internet site of the RSPCA Danaher Animal Home for Essex. This internet site was launched in 2000 with the intention for people to be able to understand more about the animal home, the work of the RSPCA and to see some of the animals that have not yet secured a home. If you would like to find out more about the website, then please click here.
The animal home is the main RSPCA centre caring for unwanted and neglected animals in Essex. All animals are catered for, and extensive facilities are provided for the care and rehabilitation of wildlife casualties. The home is situated between the villages of Sible Hedingham and Wethersfield in North Essex. During 2000 the home admitted 655 cats, 424 dogs, 408 miscellaneous domestic animals, and many different species of wild animals. Other animals cared for included pigs, horses, goats, sheep, poultry and exotics. The home has featured regularly in the Channel Four television series "Pet Rescue".
The continuing process of improvement of the home has included a new reception centre, opened early in 2001. This had included a shop in the reception area which sells all sorts of animal goodies and some other non animal goodies for the owners! Successful projects for 2003 have included conversion of our small animal barn with 5 indoor aviaries which are acting as temporary homes for 2 families of chinchillas as well as a selection of budgies, cockatiels, rosella parakeets, and a lively parrot. The ferret house has now been completed offering spacious accommodation for 6 single ferrets.
The home is run by a Trust representing the six RSPCA Essex Branches and is funded by voluntary contributions, almost entirely from the people of Essex. |
